Rafael Villar Burke
Rafael Villar Burke (born in Santiago de Compostela, 1976), studies at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), graduating with a Master of Architecture, specializing in Building (structural engineering, construction and building science), in 2001.
Takes part in the Seminario de Arquitectura Integrada en el Medio Ambiente (SAIMA) (Environment integrated architecture semminar) during years 1999 and 2000, where he grows an interest and education in sustainable architecture and building. He participates in a restricted competition to build highly energy efficient social dwelling in San Fermín - Usera (Madrid, 1999) organized by EMV, besides other ecological architecture projects.
Between years 2000 and 2006 he works as a collaborator architect in the madrilean practice 'Milla, Mira y Navarro, Arquitectos', participating in the elaboration of architectural and urbanism competitions proposals, as well as developing building projects (detailing and designing) or doing building site supervision.
Activity in the practice was centered around public administration needs (justice, health or cultural buildings...), and most contracts were obtained through open competition. The list of projects in which he's been involved is extense, with some of the most relevant ones being the San Martin de la Vega Auditorium, court buildings in Arganda del Rey, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Granada o Burgos, health care buildings in Madrid, Logroño or Vallecas. Or the good practices manual for the conservation of 'Casa de las Flores'.
Since 2002 takes responsibility of the structural engineering tasks at 'Milla, Mira y Navarro, Arquitectos', having dealt with more than 25.000m2 of new buildings and 20.000m2 of rehabilitated, supervised or structurally evaluated built surfaces.
In 2006 he stablished as an independent consultant offering structural engineering and architectural services.
To be added to this backgound is an interest and education in economical science, computer science and programming.

- Leading developer of the Pascaline project, aimed at developing free software tools for structural engineering.
- System administrator of a network using GNU/Linux (Apache, Postfix, Courier, Squirrelmail...) for servers and MS-Windows (XP, 2000) as desktops.
- Advanced user of Windows, MS-Office, OpenOffice, Autocad, Photoshop, 3D Studio, Corel Draw... and other CAD, graphical and office applications
